The Co-operative Principle in technical texts

The thesis analyses the usage of the Cooperative principle in technical texts as well as concepts related to it. The Cooperative principle specified by Grice is one of the most prominent theories in pragmatics, and its usage can be observed or neglected almost in every communication. With that in mind, the author of the thesis analyzes technical texts and describes various pragmatic aspects related to this principle. Furthermore, the thesis describes the Politeness principle, which is related to the Cooperative principle, demonstrates its appliance and describes various politeness strategies used in technical texts. The pragmatic aspects of the technical texts are explained in this thesis as well, and their usage is shown in the text. Lastly, the series of technical texts are compared with texts non-technical and the difference in usage of the Cooperative and Politeness principle is observed and described.

Developing Intercultural Communicative Competence Using the Cooperative Principle

Tato diplomová práce představuje čtyřhodinovou výukovou intervenci zaměřenou na rozvoj interkulturní komunikační kompetence pomocí konverzačních maximů Paula Grice. Intervence cílí na studenty, kteří se angličtinu učí jakožto cizí jazyk, a snaží se zvýšit jejich schopnost zaznamenat, interpretovat a mezikulturně srovnávat neexplicitní komunikaci v angličtině. Konverzační maximy slouží jako přehledný rámec, který umožňuje výstižné a zároveň relativně hloubkové analýzy implikatur, vytvořených mluvčími různých kulturních původů. Quasi-experimentální výzkum uskutečněný ve čtyřech skupinách žáků ve věku 16 až 17 let zhodnocuje, zda má intervence skutečně pozitivní vliv na úroveň interkulturní komunikační kompetence účastníků a zda zvyšuje jejich povědomí o vlivu kultury na neexplicitní komunikaci a jazyk obecně.

The Language Usage in the Field of Politics

Bakalářská práce na téma Používání jazyka v oblasti politiky je rozdělena do dvou hlavních částí. V první části jsou představeny teorie, které jsou použity na analýzu korpusu dané práce. Popis obou teorií, Griceova teorie Kooperačních principů i Leechova teorie Zdvořilostních principů, je podpořen názornými příklady z korpusu. V druhé části bakalářské práce jsou vyhodnocena data získaná analýzou korpusu. Korpus se skládá z 10 rozhovorů s německými politiky na téma ´Uprchlická krize´, které byly zveřejněny od srpna do listopadu 2015 v německém deníku ´Die Welt´. Cílem této bakalářské práce je zjistit, jestli jsou, případně nejsou, dodržována pravidla Konverzačních a Zdvořilostních principů a jestli se výrazným způsobem proměnila ve zkoumaném období.
